Living with less really can mean MORE for your family!

Another fantastic in-studio visit with the awesome Jill Savage of Hearts at Home. This past Wednesday Jill stopped by to talk about how giving up things, activities, and even money can mean MORE for your family. More time, more family togetherness, and more PEACE in your home. I especially appreciated what Jill said when Jeremy asked her how you can know that you really are too busy. Without missing a beat, Jill answered right away, "When the things that are important to you aren't happening. Like family meals...". Talk about hitting home!! The Traceys are definitely seeing the benefit of giving up activities, eating out, and buying stuff in order to actually have MORE for our little family! What have you given up so that your family can have MORE? Or, what do you need to give up ASAP? Let us know in a comment on this blog post and you could win a copy of the book, "Living with Less so your Family can have More" by Jill and her husband, Mark Savage. (Make sure to add an email address in your comment so I can contact you if you win!) Hurry! The winners will be posted tomorrow (Monday, March 7) at 5pm. Oh, and check out info on Jill Savage and the Hearts at Home National Conference for Moms at www.heartsathome.org

Wow!! This hit home. I have just been contemplating that very thing. I so want to learn to give up some of the things that just bog me down. Things like eating out, buying things I don't need that really bring me unhappiness. I am searching for the things that bring me joy!!

My husband and I have worked together now for 2 years, side-by-side, all day, everyday. We thought it would be great for us and our ministry, but we have recently discovered that we need space; in order to create that space, we made a life change (effective tomorrow) that I will only be working part-time. It definitely puts our family in a new financial place, but we're excited. We are excited about how it can really help us work on our marriage and also help us make time "for us." We want our marriage to be holy and joyful and making hard decisions and facing new challenges, in order to make that happen, is necessary. We want to create lasting memories and not just cram stuff into our lives, just to say we did it. And making sacrifices is what makes that happen.

I just bought and read this entire book last weekend! I cannot say enough good things about it. It has definitely caused me to re-evaluate things in our home and we're on the path to making some significant changes that will result in MORE! (PS -- no need to enter me into the giveaway, just wanted to comment and make sure everyone knows how incredibly awesome this book is!)

I enjoyed hearing Jill Savage talk about giving things up in life, including serving at her church...that really spoke to me! I try to take it one day at a time and when I'm feeling disconnected from my family or my husband, I get on my knees and really listen to God. Everytime He tells me what I need to give up on that particular day and I listen and the rewards are always ten-fold. It is so hard to do, but I put all my trust in Him and He leads the way.

I have this bad habit about buying more socks when I don't want to go down and look for mates... does that help you understand my need for the book, and the awesome Hearts at Home Conference?? Can't wait... first timer this year!

We don't have cable, because if we did, we'd watch more tv than we already do! Now if I can just control my time on the internet!

Here some of the things we had to give up so I can stay home with our two daughters:
Living on one income, every month we "just" make it, but we make it. No cable TV, hardly ever eating out, sometimes we just don't have enough gas in the car to go somewhere so we stay home, hardly ever buy new things unless we absolutely need them, but I don't mind (well most of the time) because I want to be there for my girls!!!!

I would love to read this book! At the moment I am a stay-at-home mom so that I can give my kids what we feel is best for them and as a result we have given up a lot - new cars, going to movies, new clothes, the list goes on and on. =)

I love all the books she has written.

We have given up lots so I can stay home - no regrets with that choice.

Feel like we are in a transition right now of rebalancing time - and some things are going to get cut. Thanks for giveaway!

I love Jill's writing!
As a Family Manager Coach, I am always looking for new ways to live better with less stress and less money.
Instead of buying a new Bible this year (we own several), I downloaded a free app to my phone. Now, I can read each morning before anyone else is up without having to turn on a light. It's the little things (free app) that matter (finally forging a daily Bible reading habit)!
Now, can I please win her book so I have something fabulous to read in the daylight? :)

Most of my mommy years have been spent home with my girls. I had an in-home daycare so I could raise our children in our own home and still contribute to the financial needs of our family. Knowing my youngest would be in Kindergarten and that I didn't want to continue with daycare without them home, I went back to school. After I graduated, that meant it was time to find a job. I took a full time job which requires me to miss out on summer fun, weekends, and I come home tired and worn out. My husband and I have been praying about a way that will allow me to continue with the career I love with more time with the family that means everything to me. The doors of that opportunity opened up to me last week in the way of a job opening with better hours for family. It's out of my hands now, and in God's control. Now we are praying for His will to be done in our family.

We live one only my husbands income so there have been a few things that we have given up or ways that we have saved like buying our kids clothes at a consignment store, no cable or satellite tv, trying not to eat out very often, using coupons to grocery shop, and I love garage sales :) I love the idea of living with less so your family can have more... i love it! Can't wait for Hearts at Home this weekend! I love the encouragement for moms!

I stopped working to become a SAHM with our young ones as they were born- so we have given up cable, a nicer vehicle, buying many things we don't need, and going out to eat frequently. Movies and vacations are also things we have given up for the past few years. It's worth it, but sometimes I have to remind myself of that when I see something I would love to have or a vacation opportunity that is enticing!

I have been a SAHM and I also home school my daughter. We have given up alot and even had to loose our house so I can home. We feel like it is so important to be home with our daugher especially in today's climate. I have never looked back in all these 14 years and said I wish we had 2 incomes again. Sure it is hard and we don't do much but our family time is wonderful. We would not change it for anything.

My husband and I have been working so hard to live within our means. This book would be such a blessing to our efforts!

Love reading books that bring things into perspective. We try to live with less "consumerism" and buy what we need vs. want....and, most importantly, what God wants. krvander@charter.net

This book has been on my "wish list" for a LONG time now. I applaud anyone who tries to live with less "stuff" and be frugal!

Both my husband and I NEED to learn this. We have different visions and need to come together to make a difference in the future for our family.

We gave up the satellite dish years ago due not only to much of the content, but also for saving money & not watching so much television. We also have been more cautious as to what we say "yes" to - as so much time on the road depletes our resources and time together as a family. There are just a couple of the ways that we have learned to live with less. We still have much to learn. It really is tough in our culture, though. The pressure & temptation to "have it all" is great.

I gave up disposable diapers for cloth. Napkins and paper towels for cloth napkins and rags. Eating out for eating at home. Activities outside the home for fun at home. Our most recent is our clothes line.
